#VolumeFriday Issue 78

How exciting that the weekend is here again, and therefore it is #VolumeFriday where the excitement continues. The studio is enjoying not only the warmer days but also the political upheaval a general election brings. Well....maybe not enjoy, but it is a little different.

This week I thought I'd talk about Augmented Reality or AR. We have previously talked about VR, mainly because of the Volume:CODA PSVR addition. But I'm seeing a range of media talking about the possibilities that AR can bring. Currently, virtual reality is more prevalent as compared to augmented reality, which is why VR-based applications account for a major chunk of revenue of the global market, but this is set to change.

There is a large interest amongst iPhone users, in particular american millennials especially after the explosion of Pokemon Go. They just don't want to wear corrective lenses or clunky headwear, so AR through mobiles is an optimal choice. Interestingly Google, after an initial stumble with Google Glass, has reentered the augmented reality ring with Tango, a new mobile-based platform.
